“The artist is nothing without the gift, but the gift is nothing without work.” –Emile Zola

While creativity is innate and art is pure joy, it is also a discipline with skills and techniques to be learned and mastered through practice and experience. Artists of any age can benefit from focusing on the elements of design and the basics of drawing. In Julie’s art classes, students are guided through the uses of such elements as line, shape, colour, balance, texture and space so they can develop compositions with creative confidence.

Students will also be introduced to lessons in art history and art theory. They will learn the vocabulary of fine art and be encouraged to freely express themselves.

Butler, the mother of five, is sensitive to different learning styles and aptitudes. She has taught art for the Windsor-Essex County YMCA and the Windsor-Essex County Separate School Board. She has experience as a docent at the Art Gallery of Windsor and has also lead street painting clinics for the town of Tecumseh’s Arts & Culture Committee and the International Fringe’s Chalk & Chocolate Festival. Julie is passionate about making art accessible and enjoyable.

Students, age 5 and up are welcome. All materials are included in the class fees. Contact Julie to register and learn more about the class schedule.
